LSU vs. Alabama: 3 Reasons Tonight's Winner Will Be the One and Only Champ
The national championship between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide is just a few hours away from kicking off. While many don't agree with the matchup, we can agree that this should be a fantastic game and should come down to the wire.
LSU won the earlier meeting between these two teams, but although LSU fans may not agree, the winner of this game should be declared the national champion and the only champion. There shouldn't be a split national champion, no matter what the outcome is.
Here's why.
Alabama Should Have Won the Last Game
1 of 3We can talk about the last game between these teams all we want, but the bottom line is that the Crimson Tide simply played the better game. They outgained the Tigers 295 to 239 yards. Alabama simply couldn't make their field goals, as they missed four attempts.
I'm not saying that LSU didn't deserve to win that game, because they did—they executed and make their kicks. But let's not pretend that LSU destroyed the Crimson Tide, because if Alabama ended up making a few more field goals, this wouldn't even be a conversation.
These Are the Two Best Teams
2 of 3You could make an argument for whichever team you want, but these are the two best teams in the country. These two teams play the best defense in the country statistically, and would absolutely shut down any of those offensive teams that don't understand the concept of defense. Every BCS National Champion has played great defense and this year will be no different.
Both LSU and Alabama have won every game by double-digits. The only game Alabama lost this year, of course, was the one against LSU—and it was by a field goal in overtime. These two teams are 1a and 1b and what happened in the regular season shouldn't matter.
The top two teams will play tonight and the winner will be the champion. If that wasn't the case, there would be no point in playing this game to begin with.
This Is the National Championship, Right?
3 of 3Last time I checked, this game is the national championship and is for all the marbles. You don't get a retry or a redo and there shouldn't be any moral victories around here. Both of these teams are healthy and have had over a month to prepare. Yes, they have had over four weeks to get ready for this game.
That to me is more than enough time to prepare your team and makes me think that the best team will win. There isn't a short notice here—both teams know what they're doing and know the magnitude of this game. The winner will take all; the loser will go home disappointed and try again next year.
Now that this is out of the way, let's play football!
