Alabama vs. LSU: Defensive Struggle Will Turn off Casual Fans
It's no secret that the BCS National Championship will be all about defense, and because of that, many fans won't stick around that long.
They'll be hard pressed to find anything better on TV Monday night, as the No. 1 LSU Tigers battling the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide in a rematch will be fantastic to watch.
Those that don't believe this will be an outstanding game are upset because this is a rematch. We've seen these two teams play against each other this year, and it didn't live up the expectations.
SEC country will most definitely be watching, but those other fans around the country aren't too pleased these two teams are playing each other again, which will hurt the overall ratings of the game.
As the two best teams in the country, Alabama and LSU will heavily rely on their defense in the biggest game of them all, and it won't sit well with the casual fan.
Round 1
On November 5, Alabama hosted LSU in what was labeled the "Game of the Century." While the game did go into overtime, it wasn't exactly the ultimate thriller since the score ended up being 9-6.
Neither team had over 300 total yards of offense in the first meeting, which is the main reason people called it a "snooze fest."
Since the game had its dull moments, many fans of college football are going into the title game expecting the worst.
While I've been adamant that there will be touchdowns this second time around, there's no denying that the defense will still win big the majority of the game, and that is why some fans are already turned off by this game.
Of course, if you know of anyone who says they won't be watching the BCS title then they can't call themselves real fans of college football. After all, this is the national championship game. Regardless of who is playing, it's the biggest game of the year, as well as the last one until the fall, so there's no reason not to watch it.
Even if it is a rematch, and the first go-around wasn't all that epic, this game is for all the marbles and that's why people should tune in.
Unfortunately, once the defenses start dominating, people will change the channel.
Epic Bowl Season
This postseason of college football has been one of the best ever, which adds more pressure on the BCS title game.
We've seen amazing comebacks, overtime thrillers and lots and lots of offense. Several games surpassed a total of 70 points, and a couple even went over 100.
The big touchdown plays really get the fans amped up, but since those monstrous plays are unlikely in the title game, some fans will get weary.
Trent Richardson has the ability to break big runs, and Tyrann Mathieu and Marquis Maze are excellent return guys capable of making phenomenal plays out of nothing.
However, the No. 1 and No. 2 defenses in the country will not budge, meaning the touchdowns are likely to come while in the red zone after a long drive.
We could get a pick-six, which would keep the causal fan hanging around, but there's no guarantee of that. There is, however, a guarantee that LSU and Alabama will be making big stops, denying the offense of a ton of great success.
Prediction
Eventually an offense will rise to the occasion and put six points on the board, but it won't be happening as much as fans will like.
In the end, Richardson is the best player on either offense, and he'll do enough to give Alabama plenty of chances to score points.
The Crimson Tide won't rely on field goal after field goal, but they will execute them when needed, giving Alabama a close victory over LSU, thus, creating even more chaos in college football.
