The 10 Biggest Blowouts in Alabama vs. LSU Football History

Jake MartinJun 7, 2018

The national championship featuring LSU and Alabama tonight will most likely be a closely-contested game, and there’s no way it will top any of the past blowout victories between the Tigers and Crimson Tide.

Both teams have had their fair share of great games in this SEC rivalry, but both teams have suffered some one-sided beat-downs too.

And we’re talking 42-0 beat-downs. Most of these games have been dealt out by the Crimson Tide, but LSU has delivered a few dominating performances themselves.

These are the 10 biggest blowouts in the rivalry.

10. 1965—31-7 Alabama

1 of 10

Led by the Bear, Alabama went into Death Valley and defeated the Tigers 31-7 in 1965.

The Crimson Tide would go on to play for the national championship that year and beat Nebraska 39-28.

9. 2003—27-3 LSU

2 of 10

The LSU Tigers won their second national championship in 2003, and they went straight through Alabama on their way to New Orleans. Sort of like this season.

Oh, and the coach that led them to the national championship that season was none other than Nick Saban.

8. 1996—26-0 Alabama

3 of 10

Alabama basically went into hostile territory, faced the No. 11 ranked team in the nation and turned heads around the country with this victory.

The Crimson Tide blew out the Tigers 26-0 and would go on to beat Michigan in the Outback Bowl 17-14.

7. 1997—27-0 LSU

4 of 10

Led by Kevin Faulk, the Tigers gave Alabama an SEC-sized beat-down in 1997.

The Tigers would go on to play Notre Dame in the Independence Bowl that season and win 27-9.

6. 1957—28-0 LSU

5 of 10

The year before the Tigers won their very first national championship, the Tigers blasted Alabama in a shutout victory.

The Tigers would be led by their future Heisman winning running back Billy Cannon and Jim Taylor that season.

5. 1947—41-12 Alabama

6 of 10

Alabama named a new head coach in 1947, and Harold “Red” Drew would lead Alabama to a rout over the Tigers.

The blowout victory would be the largest blowout of the season for the Tide.

4. 1974—30-0 Alabama

7 of 10

Led by head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, Alabama put the hurt on the Tigers in 1974.

The Crimson Tide would run the table that year until the Orange Bowl and lost to Notre Dame for the national championship.

3. 1930—33-0 Alabama

8 of 10

This was back when Alabama football was beating everybody and winning national championships left and right.

LSU fell to the Crimson Tide just like everybody else and it was another national championship season for the Tide.

2. 1925—42-0 Alabama

9 of 10

I think it’s safe to say Alabama laid down the hammer of Thor on LSU in this game.

As if the score wasn’t bad enough, the Crimson Tide did it to LSU in Baton Rouge to keep their undefeated season alive.

The Crimson Tide would go on to win the national championship that season after beating Washington in the Rose Bowl 20-19.

1. 1922—47-3 Alabama

10 of 10

Oh, I remember this game quite fondly. Moving on.

As the score shows, the Crimson Tide handled LSU in this game.

The good news for LSU, though, was that Alabama beat a team worse than that in 1922. In fact, they defeated Marion Institute 110-0, which is the largest margin of victory and points scored in a single-game in Alabama history.
