LeBron James Rumors: 'Conversations' in NBA If Lakers Star Would Be Open to Trade
The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled following a hot start to the 2024-25 season, leading to some uncertainty surrounding LeBron James' future with the organization.
When the topic of James potentially getting traded to the Golden State Warriors was brought up on NBA Countdown, ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed it's something he's heard before.
"I'd be lying if I said that there hasn't been some conversations in the league with LeBron at some point this year, like revisit that," he said (h/t SI.com's Joey Linn). "Because you remember at the trade deadline last year, the Warriors called."
"It's possible if LeBron wanted it," he added.
The Lakers opened up the year with a 10-4 record, but they've dropped seven of their past 10 games to fall to 13-11 on the season as a whole.
While James' individual production has slightly dipped compared to past years, his all-around effectiveness at 39 years old has still been impressive.
The NBA's all-time leading scorer is averaging 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game on 49.5/35.9/76.2 shooting splits.
The opportunity to join Golden State and play with superstar Stephen Curry is certainly enticing, although it's difficult to imagine James waiving his no-trade clause with Los Angeles sitting just three games back from the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
He's also in the midst of the first year as teammates with his son, Bronny, something that he's openly discussed as a goal of his. It would be hard to picture him departing shortly after the two made history as the first father-son duo to share the court on Oct. 22.
Trade buzz may increase if Los Angeles continues to falter, but the final decision regarding a trade is expected to come down to James himself.
