NFL Exec: Jags Only Team Bill Belichick 'Could Get Whatever Power He Is Looking For'
The Jacksonville Jaguars might be the one NFL franchise desperate enough to offer Bill Belichick the kind of authority he'd want to wield in his next job, according to one NFL team executive.
"Jacksonville is the one place he could get whatever power he is looking for," the exec said to The Athletic's Mike Sando. "Is he trying to get (Jaguars owner) Shad Khan to make a move?"
When the NFL coaching carousel got underway last offseason, many fans expected Belichick to be a coveted name thanks to his legendary track record. Instead, he failed to find a taker and didn't get very close in the end.

One concern is that 72-year-old became almost the sole voice of authority within the New England Patriots by the end of his time there. Their steadily diminishing on-field concerns didn't reflect well on his abilities as a personnel executive.
Sando wrote how "very few teams, if any, appear willing to hand over full control to Belichick" looking ahead to this offseason.
Maybe the Jaguars will bite after such a bitterly disappointing year.
Over the summer, Khan signaled he thought Jacksonville had the talent necessary to contend. Instead, it's sitting at 3-10 and already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Head coach Doug Pederson is still the coach for now, but nobody will be shocked if a change is made once the regular season concludes.
With Jacksonville missing the playoffs in six out of the last seven years, Khan could see Belichick as a short-term fix who provides immediate results and sets the table for his successor.
Given how much the Patriots struggled after Tom Brady's departure, it's worth asking whether Belichick would achieve that, though. And he certainly may not be equipped to get Trevor Lawrence's career back on track after he has stagnated on the field since his 2022 Pro Bowl appearance.
