Ahead of the Big Ten Title game between Oregon and Penn State, hot dog-eating legend Joey Chestnut set a world record by consuming 21 pounds of shrimp.
The famous shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo Steak House in Indianapolis was served at the event. Known for its legendary heat in the signature sauce, it's considered an achievement just to finish a single serving, according to Saturday Down South's Paul Harvey. The competitors and Chestnut took it to a whole other level.
Before Saturday's competition, Chestnut's shrimp cocktail record was 18 pounds eaten in 18 minutes.
"Last year I was being lazy, I only did 15 pounds, I got beat," Chestnut said on the Bob and Tom Show on Friday. "I'm felling good today, or hopefully, I will be ready tomorrow."
The 41-year-old kicked off his notable career in 2007 at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, where he defeated Takeru Kobayashi to bring the "Mustard Yellow Belt" back to the United States.
That victory kicked off an eight-year title streak, during which he went undefeated until 2014, before regaining the title in 2016. He holds the world record for most hot dogs eaten, devouring 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
The 16-time champion was banned from Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2024 for his sponsorship with Impossible Foods.
He also holds 55 world records across 55 different foods, including pulled pork sandwiches, Taco Bell tacos, meat pies and asparagus, to name a few.
