Video: Jrue Holiday Says Jayson Tatum Handled Olympics Benching Like a 'Professional'
Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White had quite the summer as the Boston Celtics teammates won an NBA championship before winning gold at the Paris Olympics with Team USA.
But one of the key storylines over the summer was Tatum's lack of playing time in the Olympics. Team USA coach Steve Kerr left Tatum on the bench for two games and he played just 11 minutes during the United States' win over France in the gold medal game.
On the Podcast P with Paul George podcast, Holiday discussed Tatum's benching and had high praise for the way he carried himself throughout the Olympics. He also commended the way Jaylen Brown reacted when White was selected for the Olympic team over him.
"JT, the way he handled it, he handled it like a professional," Holiday said. "He never brought it in the locker room, he never brought it to us. Yeah, we talked about it, but it was never like it was an issue. It was the same thing with (Derrick) White and (Jaylen Brown). We all love each other, so it was never an issue amongst us."
That kind of chemistry between the Celtics stars helped them go on a dominant playoff run that ended with a championship win over the Dallas Mavericks, and they're looking to recreate that success this year.
Behind Tatum's 29 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, the Celtics have started the year 16-4 and seem to be well on their way to a big postseason.
