Lakers' Anthony Davis Hypes LeBron James as NBA's GOAT: 'Broken Almost Every Record'
When it comes to the debate regarding the No. 1 player in NBA history, Anthony Davis has made his choice clear.
In an interview with Fox Sports' Melissa Rohlin, Davis explained why he believes that Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James deserves the greatest of all-time title.
"He's the greatest ever to lace up some shoes, [scored] over 40,000 points and he's broken almost every record possible," Davis said. "So any time you have a guy on your team like that, he commands just so much attention. Also, his IQ is very high, he plays the right way, things like that. I think now it's just obviously he's getting a little bit older, still being able to do what he's able to do, which he still knows night in and night out that he can compete at a high level."
In 20 starts this season, James is averaging 22.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game on 49.3/35.7/75.8 shooting splits.
While his current scoring average represents the lowest mark since his 2003-04 rookie campaign, it's still an extremely impressive accomplishment for a player who'll be over 40 years old by the end of the regular season.
Davis has taken over the primary scoring role, averaging a team-high 28.6 points per game.
"But I just know in order for us to do something we've talked about in previous years and this year, that in order for us to reach the promised land, I have to play how I'm playing now," Davis explained, per Rohlin. "It's never been a conversation with me and him where it's like, 'Hey, this is your team and I'm giving you the keys or whatever.' It's just been something that we've just played off of each other. And it just happened."
The Lakers have struggled with inconsistency following a six-game win streak that put them at 10-4 through 14 contests, losing four of their next six games to drop to 12-8 on the season as a whole.
Still, Los Angeles sits at No. 6 in the Western Conference standings and Davis confirmed that he's focused on winning a second championship with the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
"[LeBron and I] definitely want to win another championship," Davis said. "I want to win another championship. I want a parade. I want to experience that. I know [LeBron] wants to. I know some guys on our team want to win their first one. We're all competitive and we're all playing for each other and just trying to play the right way for one common goal."
Following a one-point victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday, Davis and James will look to lead the Lakers on another win streak during a matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.
