Lakers' Bronny James to Be Reevaluated in 1 Week amid Heel Injury Rehab
Los Angeles Lakers reserve guard Bronny James will be reevaluated in a week for the heel injury that has kept him out of action since Nov. 17, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
James, who has been splitting his time between the Lakers and the G League, last played an NBA game on Nov. 10, posting no stats and a foul in two minutes against the Toronto Raptors.
For the season, he's averaging 0.7 points, 0.3 assists, 0.2 rebounds and 0.2 points in 2.7 minutes per game, shooting 16.7 percent from the field while appearing in six total contests. In two G League games for the South Bay Lakers, he's averaged five points, 2.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals, shooting 21.1 percent from the field.
He is undoubtedly a developmental project, and the Lakers have been proceeding as such.
"Our plans are always fluid based on real time," head coach J.J. Redick told reporters in late October. "... The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one. [General manager] Rob [Pelinka] and I have talked about that. LeBron's talked about that."
The elder James also seemed to anticipate a spell in the G League for his son while speaking to reporters ahead of the season.
"Just [looking forward to] seeing him continue to grow as a basketball player, no matter if it's here with us or if it's down with the G League team, and him continuing to get better and better and better," he said. "His job is to put the work in and get better and better, just like the rest of us. And we want to hold him accountable, and he's going to hold us accountable. And if we all do that, we all get better, because we're all one team. We're a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us."
For now, that development has been put on hold as he recovers from a heel injury.
