Deon Bush Commits to Miami: Should He Have Picked Auburn?

Edwin WeathersbyJan 7, 2012

As B/R Editor Michael Pinto commented, "Finally, score one for the good guys." Miami and Al Golden have finally nabbed a another great prospect who's also out of Miami.

Deon Bush, the 4-star safety prospect from the 305 is staying home to play for Miami.

Come inside, as we examine the selection and ponder the question of: should he have chosen Auburn?

Let's get started.

Who Is Deon Bush?

1 of 3

Bush is a 6'1", 185-pound DB prospect from the greater Miami area. He likely will become a safety in college, as he shows great speed on the back end and flashes solid ball skills.

He flashes great athleticism, range and will hold up at the point of attack. Bush has a reputation as a playmaker as he's not afraid to take a pick back to the house or for a big-time return.

On the recruiting front, the Florida native had an array of offers but narrowed it down to the likes of Alabama, Auburn and Miami.

The Canes won out.

What Does This Mean for Miami's Recruiting Class?

Huge get for the Canes.

Bush is the 28th commit for Al Golden and joins the likes of Duke Johnson and Jelani Hamilton as talented in-state prospects slated for Miami.

With Golden being a defensive-minded coach, look for him to deploy the athletic Bush all over the field, from the back end, deep middle and in the box.

Also, this a huge coup for Miami for another reason: it shows that Golden and his staff are still hard at work trying to resurrect the "State of Miami" recruiting territory as a pipeline to Coral Gables.

Should He Have Chosen Auburn?

3 of 3

You could easily argue that Auburn should have been the choice for Bush.

For starters, Auburn was thought to be his leader for quite sometime.

Bush tripped to Auburn October 15th and told Scout.com, he made up his mind last week and had thought long and hard about everything.

Another reason why Auburn should have been the choice one might say is the looming hard sanctions oncoming to Miami.

The Nevin Shapiro scandal won't be swept under the rug, and Miami is expected to be hit harder than USC and Ohio State.
