Daniel Jones' Top 2025 NFL Landing Spots After Reportedly Signing Vikings Contract
Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones reportedly found his new home for the remainder of the 2024 season, as Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported on Wednesday that he has agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
While backing up quarterback Sam Darnold on a 9-2 Vikings team is a solid way to end the year, it's still unclear where Jones will be for 2025 and beyond.
Schultz noted that Jones decided to join Minnesota because he "prioritized a team in contention with a QB-friendly offensive system and a coaching staff known for maximizing player potential."
With that in mind, let's take a look at some of Jones' top landing spots for next year.
San Francisco 49ers
1 of 3
The 2024 season has not been kind to the defending NFC champions, and a recent shoulder injury to starting quarterback Brock Purdy was another tough blow for the San Francisco 49ers.
In Purdy's absence this past Sunday, the 49ers turned to journeyman quarterback Brandon Allen and suffered an embarrassing 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Allen accounted for two of the team's three turnovers with an interception and a lost fumble.
Allen's performance should serve as a lesson for San Francisco on the importance of a reliable backup quarterback, so Jones would be a viable option for the team to pursue this offseason.
Working under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan would benefit Jones in his continued development as a signal-caller, and he would be a dependable fill-in if Purdy is forced to miss time again.
Baltimore Ravens
2 of 3
The success of the Baltimore Ravens relies heavily on the health of star quarterback Lamar Jackson, so upgrading their backup quarterback spot should be a priority this offseason.
If Jackson goes down, the Ravens are left to turn to veteran Josh Johnson, who entered the NFL in 2008 and has been a member of a league-record 14 different teams in his career. Despite his extensive experience, Baltimore likely would sleep better at night if Jones was Jackson's backup instead.
The last two times Jackson missed significant time, the Ravens missed the playoffs in 2021 and lost in the Wild Card Round in 2022. Baltimore is one of the top contenders in the AFC, so the team should be motivated to avoid similar disasters if anything happens to the two-time NFL MVP.
Jones would certainly welcome the opportunity to learn under Ravens head coach John Harbaugh as he looks to revive his career.
Las Vegas Raiders
3 of 3
While the Las Vegas Raiders won't necessarily fulfill Jones' goal of joining a title contender, the team likely represents his best chance to start during the 2025 season.
The Raiders are in need of a quarterback of the future and are widely believed to be eyeing a signal-caller with their first-round pick in next year's draft. If recent history has taught us anything, it's usually best for rookie quarterbacks to learn behind a veteran before being thrust into action.
Jones would serve as a capable bridge quarterback for Las Vegas as it continues to rebuild its roster around whoever it selects in the draft. He would be tasked with aiding the development of the rookie quarterback as well, which is a role he should embrace at this point.
The Raiders don't have much talent on offense, but promising rookie tight end Brock Bowers would certainly benefit from having an experienced signal-caller in his second year. Jones would get the chance to prove his doubters wrong in Las Vegas and possibly earn a long-term deal in 2026.
