Week 13 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Flex, PPR Advice for Fringe Fantasy Football Stars
Turkey time is here, but don't let those Thanksgiving feasts lull you into snoozing through a critical point on the fantasy football calendar.
Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season is here, meaning fantasy managers have precious little time left to either lock up a playoff spot or improve their postseason seeding.
So, let's dive right into the research and follow it to find some of the top start-sit recommendations for the leaguewide slate of games ahead.
Start: Bo Nix, QB, Denver Broncos (vs. Cleveland Browns)
1 of 4
If you've found yourself waiting for Bo Nix to barrel into the rookie wall, it's beyond time to find a new hobby.
The sizable stat lines keep piling up for the first-year signal-caller. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in six of his last eight outings, and in three of those contests—including his two most recent—he also had 270-plus passing yards.
Arguably, Nix deserves weekly-starter status at this point, but if you still want a good matchup to play him, this one is decent. Three of the last four quarterbacks to face Cleveland threw for at least 270 yards, while the other—Derek Carr—had two touchdown passes and zero interceptions.
Sit: Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears (at Detroit Lions)
2 of 4
Those who trusted Caleb Williams in a tricky Week 12 matchup with Minnesota were handsomely rewarded. He completed 32-of-47 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions), while also running for another 33 yards on six carries.
There will be a temptation to see if lightning might strike the same place twice. Don't fall for it.
For starters, Williams' game log makes that performance seem pretty anomalous, as it was preceded by four consecutive scoreless outings.
Beyond that, this Detroit defense is pretty stingy against quarterbacks, allowing the seventh-fewest fantasy points to the position, per Yahoo.
Start: Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
3 of 4
Very little has gone right in Carolina this season, but don't blame Chuba Hubbard.
The fourth-year running back has been a top-10 performer in rushing yards (876, fifth) and rushing touchdowns (seven, tied for 10th). He's also 10th at the position in fantasy points, per FantasyPros, and eighth over the last four weeks, even though the Panthers didn't play in one of those.
Hubbard is in too good of a groove to even consider sitting him.
Sit: James Conner, RB, Arizona Cardinals (at Minnesota Vikings)
4 of 4
Volume is supposed to be one of the primary selling points for James Conner. That's a bit of worry considering the dial has been turned down in recent weeks.
While the Cardinals running back typically hovers around 20 rushing attempts per outing, he has only logged 19 over his last two games combined.
On a quite possibly related note, Conner averaged just 2.2 yards per carry in those contests. He did at least manage to snag five receptions in each of those outings, but considering he had 19 catches over his nine games before that, no one should bank on those receptions repeating.
Not to mention, this is a brutal matchup. Minnesota has allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to the position and keeps getting stingier. You have to travel back to Week 8 to find the last time an opposing RB tallied double-digit fantasy points against this defense.
