Aaron Rodgers Denies Rumors He Doesn't Want to Play for Jets in 2025: '100% False'

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers denied expressing any preferences about where he might suit up for the 2025 NFL season.

"I haven't told anybody in my life that I want to play in 2025 and not on the Jets," he said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. "That's 100 percent false."

Rodgers did say, however, that "playing in New York would obviously be my first choice if I want to play."

With the Jets' season spiraling, Rodgers' future with the team has come under increasing doubt.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Nov. 23 that Jets owner Woody Johnson "has lost confidence in Rodgers' ability to lead the team to their first playoff berth in 14 years." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport filed a similar report the following day, writing that the four-time MVP "must play far better down the stretch for the opportunity to return in 2025."

Russini also hinted at a sense of mutual dissatisfaction.

"At this point, after conversations with sources with the team and around the league, my understanding is that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, just not for the New York Jets," she said.

Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for one more year, but nobody will be completely shocked if the partnership ends this spring.

The 2023 season was a mulligan after the 10-time Pro Bowler suffered his Achilles injury. The general drama that unfolded behind the scenes across the organization wasn't encouraging, though.

Now, New York has gotten even worse despite having Rodgers available. The 40-year-old is starting to show his age with 2,442 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The end of Haason Reddick's holdout and the midseason arrival of Davante Adams have done little to change things.

Having fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, it would make sense for Johnson to totally wipe the slate clean with a new starting quarterback too.

Whether Rodgers wants to return to the Big Apple might ultimately be irrelevant.
