Rodgers is in his first year back from a torn Achilles that cost him virtually the entire 2023 season, and it's shown. The soon-to-be 41-year-old has struggled with his timing and his mobility as the Jets enter their bye week with a 3-8 record. He's thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 63.4 percent of his passes. His average of 6.4 yards per completion is the lowest in his career as a full-time starter.
Rodgers said during the week leading up to this past Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts that he hopes to return in 2025 and he would welcome the opportunity to remain in New York. He acknowledged that he hasn't performed up to his standards.
"I'm not playing as well as I would've liked to play, for sure," he said. "The beauty in this game is it's a team game. The frustrating part is that if you're a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard that's not unrealistic, and I haven't reached that standard this year."
When the Jets acquired Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2023 season, many expected that he would turn the team into a Super Bowl contender. However, New York has failed to escape its recent run of bad luck, as it appears it will miss the playoffs for a 14th straight year.
If Rodgers doesn't return to the Jets next season, it will create another hole for the team to fill amid its impending rebuild.
