Michael Irvin Says He'll Pitch Jerry Jones on Deion Sanders Being Next Cowboys HC
Michael Irvin has his preference for who the Dallas Cowboys should hire as their next head coach.
During the pre-show for the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight, the former Dallas Cowboys standout appeared alongside Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at AT&T Stadium. During the interview, Irvin alluded to the fact that he would talk to Jones about current Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.
"Everybody loves Mike [Tyson], but everybody loves and respects Jake [Paul] also for what he's done here," Irvin said on the broadcast, per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. "To have an ability to not go the normal route and still end up right here. You give him respect. I give him respect like I give my great guy Deion Sanders, who didn't go the normal route. Who I'm gonna be in Jerry's ear about later. That's just something else we're talking about."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Sanders was notably teammates with Irvin on the Cowboys' Super Bowl 30 title team.
A few things would need to happen for Sanders to become the Cowboys head coach. First and foremost, Jones would need to fire current coach Mike McCarthy, who has compiled an overall record of 45-31 with the franchise.
While his record is solid, the Cowboys have had limited playoff success and are just 3-6 thus far in 2024. If Jones were to move on from McCarthy, he surely would like to make a splash and Sanders would fit that mold.
The NFL Hall of Fame cornerback is in his second season as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and has led the team to an 8-2 start to the season. This comes after a 4-8 season in 2023 and a 1-11 season in 2022, so the rapid improvement has been very noticeable.
Sanders has stated his desire to remain with Colorado and Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that Cowboys buzz was "all chitchat." Still, the chance to become the head coach of his former team would at least be intriguing and his positive relationship with Jones could make it a strong fit.
However, Sanders is currently focused on leading the Buffaloes to a conference championship, so any potential movement will have to wait until the offseason.
