Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Says Wrist Surgery Was Discussed, Will Play Through Injury
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill confirmed that he has discussed, and opted against, surgery to address his lingering wrist injury.
"I've been talking to a lot of people about this particular injury. At the end of the day I just gotta suck it up, and just deal with the pain," Hill told reporters on Thursday. "It's gonna get worse the more I play, but I gotta get it out for my team. I'm here, I'm locked in, no matter what, no matter how I feel. Even if I've got to cut my wrist off, I'm still out there, because I love the game of football.

"Surgery was brought up, and it was talked about, whenever I talked to a few of the doctors. But it's my call at the end of the day, and my call is to stay out on the field."
ESPN's Lisa Salters reported on Monday that an MRI previously revealed a torn ligament in Hill's wrist and that he has been playing through the injury "all season long."
Hill appeared on the Dolphins injury report with a wrist injury for the first time last Friday, ahead of a Monday night matchup at the Los Angeles Rams. He has yet to miss a game this season.
"He said he's just been quiet about it all season long," Salters said about her conversation with Hill. "So, I said to him, 'Do you not want me to say anything about it? Because you just told me all about it.' He said, 'It's fine. It's something that I have to deal with.'"
Hill then told NFL Network's Taylor Bisciotti after Monday's win over the Rams that he had injured his wrist against the Washington Commanders, and then "re-aggravated it trying to block my tail off during the course of the year."
The wideout did not play against the Commanders in the teams' preseason matchup, but may have been referring to a joint practice with Washington on Aug. 15.
"It happens. It's football. No excuses," Hill told Bisciotti after the game. "There's a lot of guys in the NFL who are hurt, who are injured. It's part of my job description, and I love it."
Hill is having a down season after leading the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards in 2023. He has recorded just 462 receiving yards through nine games, and caught a touchdown pass for the first time since Week 1 during Monday's win over the Rams.
That victory helped the Dolphins improve to 3-6 on the season and retain a chance of making the playoffs. The team remaining in the hunt for the postseason, despite losing six of seven games between Weeks 2 and 9, could be part of the reason Hill sounds reluctant to undergo what could be a season-ending procedure.
