Cowboys' Dak Prescott Placed on IR After Season-Ending Surgery for Hamstring Injury
The Dallas Cowboys are without star quarterback Dak Prescott for the remainder of the season after he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 9. They made it official, placing him on season-ending injured reserve Monday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Prescott, who signed a four-year, $240 million contract extension before the start of the season, didn't have the year he hoped for, even before the season-ending injury.
Through eight games, he had 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions amid Dallas' 3-5 start to the season. It was a bit of a drop-off compared to last year when he threw for 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

There's nothing Prescott can do to improve his 2024 numbers now, but he'll be looking to come back stronger and potentially lead the Cowboys to a big year in 2025.
In the meantime, Dallas will be left without Prescott as it tries to salvage what has been a disastrous start to the year. The Cowboys dropped to 3-6 after last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and face a tough test against the Houston Texans on Monday night.
With Prescott sidelined, the Cowboys have turned to Cooper Rush, a seven-year vet who has spent his career playing behind Prescott. His first start of the season was bleak, as he completed 13 of his 23 pass attempts for just 45 yards, losing two fumbles.
The team could also give snaps to Trey Lance, especially if the losses begin stacking. He was given some run during last week's loss to the Eagles, finishing 4-of-6 for 21 yards and an interception.
