Cowboys' Mike McCarthy 'Embarrassed' by Viral Video of HC Slamming Tablet vs. Falcons

Andrew PetersNov 6, 2024

As frustrations mounted in the Dallas Cowboys' 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, head coach Mike McCarthy was seen slamming his tablet to the ground on the sideline.

McCarthy addressed that moment on Wednesday, saying it's something "there is no excuse for."

"I'm embarrassed by it. It's something that at my age, clearly there is no excuse for," McCarthy said, per The Athletic's Jon Machota. "That's not what I represent. I'm embarrassed as the leader of this team. … That was definitely a moment that I wish I had back."

In some ways, McCarthy's emotions in that heated moment on the sideline reflect those of the entire Cowboys organization. Dallas dropped to 3-5 on the year with Sunday's loss and continues to see its playoff hopes shrink each week.

Making matters worse, the Cowboys lost star quarterback Dak Prescott in the matchup due to a hamstring injury. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Dallas will likely place Prescott on the injured reserve, meaning he'd miss at least four games.

Prescott hasn't had the best season of his career thus far, throwing for 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, but the Cowboys offense will still sorely miss him over the next few weeks.

Ahead of the meeting with the Falcons, Prescott called the game a "must-win."

"Hell to me every game is," he said, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "But obviously 3-4, as I've said, lot of season left, but the first start to be able to say that confidently is getting back even, especially having a couple of home ones after that."

Losing that "must-win" game adds just more pressure to the Cowboys as they prepare to take on the scorching-hot Philadelphia Eagles, who have won their last four games.
