Cowboys' Jerry Jones: 'I'm Good With' Mike McCarthy; Players 'Think Highly' of HC
While the Dallas Cowboys continued their freefall from title contention with their third straight loss on Sunday, team owner Jerry Jones made it clear that he has no plans to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy.
"I'm good with Mike," Jones said Monday, per The Athletic's Jon Machota. "I know how hard he works. I like his football mind. I know how good he works. He's got, in my mind, an outstanding coaching record. He's really good with the players. They think highly of him."
The Cowboys fell to 3-5 with their 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The three-game skid is Dallas' longest losing streak since it dropped four straight games during the 2020 campaign.

Still, Jones maintained his confidence in McCarthy, who has drawn criticism for his decision-making and his struggles to elevate the team.
"He's got a lot of fire in his belly," Jones added. "So, I'm just giving you this, I like the positives I see. And by the way, frankly, some of the best coaches I've been around, I got to see them when times were bad."
Jones referenced Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson, who won one game in his first season with the Cowboys in 1989 before leading the team to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1992 and 1993.
"I've had experience of having times when you were questioning and thinking about maybe doing it differently. But I've had good experience with staying with it," Jones said.
McCarthy has coached the Cowboys since 2020 and led the team to two NFC East titles in his first four seasons. However, Dallas has not translated its regular-season success into the playoffs, as the team has not advanced past the Divisional Round since its last Super Bowl win in 1995.
Things won't get easier for McCarthy and the Cowboys anytime soon, as they will meet the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) in an NFC East showdown this Sunday.
