76ers' Paul George Calls JJ Redick's Start to Lakers HC Career 'Very Impressive'
Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George complimented the beginning of JJ Redick's coaching career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
"I think his start has been very impressive," George said on Monday's Podcast P with Paul George Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment (11:07 mark). "That team has bought into him. They trust him and they believe in him. I think that's one of the biggest things, especially when you have a mega star like LeBron and Anthony Davis on your side, and those guys buy into you from jump. It says a lot about his presence there."
Under Redick, the Lakers have opened the season with a 4-2 record and own the fifth-best offensive rating in the association (via NBA.com).
Los Angeles started the year with a 3-0 record before putting an end to a brief two-game losing streak due to a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday.
It's an encouraging sign for the Lakers that opponents are praising Redick's ability to rally his team, especially when he's already been lauded for his preparation by Davis.
"The game plan, the schemes that he had on both ends of the floor, he trusts us," Davis said after a season-opening win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic. "We trust him, as far as what he teaches us, what he wants us to do on the floor on both ends and it's our job to go execute it. I think we were very prepared tonight."
The positive environment that Redick has cultivated in his first year with the organization started before preseason, as Buha previously reported that "vibes around the Lakers are at an all-time high" during training camp.
As for George, he hasn't appeared in Philadelphia's first five games of the season due to a bone bruise in his left knee. He's expected to make his debut with the team on Monday, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
Redick will be coaching against George for the first time on Friday, as Philadelphia travels to Crypto.com Arena for a matchup with the Lakers.
