NFL Playoff Picture 2024: Week 10 Standings, Super Bowl Odds, Wild Card Bracket Hunt

Joe TanseyNov 4, 2024

The top tier of NFL teams includes just a few franchises after nine weeks.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the elite of the elite, but the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills could each make a strong case as challengers to the two-time reigning Super Bowl champion.

The second tier of title contenders is made up of the other division leaders and the top wild-card teams.

Eleven teams in total have at least six wins after Week 9, and three of them reside in the NFC North.

Detroit's NFC North lead is comfortable for now, but out of all the eight divisions, that one has the potential to be the best division title race in the second half of the season.

Kansas City is the clear favorite to represent the AFC once again in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs are expected to move to 8-0 on Monday night against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team ravaged by injuries at wide receiver.

Kansas City is two weeks away from its blockbuster clash with the Bills that will give us a better sense of where Buffalo stands in comparison to the NFC West leader.

Buffalo might clinch the AFC East before December starts at this rate, and with that title already in tow, it can focus on its Super Bowl-caliber matchups with Kansas City, the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit between Weeks 10 and 15.

The Houston Texans will get their shot at Detroit on Sunday night in Week 10. They are in a similar spot to the Bills within their division, as they have a two-game lead over the Indianapolis Colts with two head-to-head wins in their possession.

The AFC North will be the most exciting division race in the conference. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals face off on Thursday night and then the Ravens host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11.

Baltimore, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are all players in the AFC wild-card race, but the true favorite to land the No. 5 seed might be the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jim Harbaugh's team is 5-3 with three home games up next on its schedule against the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati and Baltimore. Wins over the Bengals and Ravens would put the Chargers in pristine position in the wild-card race.

The same can't be said about the Denver Broncos, who face Kansas City in Week 10 and the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11 before their schedule gets a bit easier.

Detroit has looked like the top team in the NFC for most of the season.

The Lions earned their second NFC North win on Sunday in Green Bay to push themselves to 7-1.

The Packers are still in good shape to earn a wild-card berth at 6-3. They are 1.5 games ahead of their closest competition and they can extend some of that advantage in head-to-head clashes with the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers after their Week 10 bye.

Minnesota is slightly above Green Bay, and although its next three games are on the road, they are against the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Bears.

The Washington Commanders are the only team keeping pace with the Lions at the moment.

Washington has a tough three-game stretch coming up against Pittsburgh, the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

The Week 11 Thursday night battle between the Commanders and Eagles could shift the balance of power inside the NFC East.

While the Cowboys are far outside the wild-card race right now, they can affect the NFC East race as a spoiler with the Eagles and Commanders next on their schedule.

No one is expected to spoil Atlanta's party atop the NFC South. The Falcons could be ahead by 2.5 games in the NFC South if Tampa Bay loses to Kansas City on Monday.

The NFC West will at least be competitive with all four teams at either four or five wins. Arizona should be ahead for one more week, at least, since it hosts the New York Jets on Sunday.
