Jerry Jones: Cowboys Have 'Some Things in the Mix' Ahead of 2024 NFL Trade Deadline

Scott PolacekNov 3, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys have lost three in a row and fell to 3-5 with Sunday's defeat to the Atlanta Falcons, but team owner Jerry Jones suggested help could be on the way by Tuesday's trade deadline.

He told reporters Dallas "has some things in the mix," adding, "we'll probably do a couple things this week. I'm a long way from being dismayed about this team this year."

That's something of a change of tune for Jones, as Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Oct. 15 that the owner said the team likely wouldn't be active at the deadline.

He also said the Cowboys weren't looking to make any coaching changes.

Still, the overall outlook of the season looks different Sunday than it did at the time. A 3-2 start was promising, especially after a dramatic road win over the Pittsburgh Steelers that came in the game's final minute.

Since then, Dallas lost to the Detroit Lions in blowout fashion before two straight six-point losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Falcons. The team is well behind the 7-2 Washington Commanders and 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.

Throw in the hamstring injury quarterback Dak Prescott suffered in Sunday's loss, and the outlook is rather bleak for the club.

Frankly, there likely isn't the type of season-altering trade available by Tuesday's deadline for the Cowboys, especially after star players such as Davante Adams, Amari Cooper and DeAndre Hopkins were already moved.

Some under-the-radar moves may help, but the Cowboys are staring at quite the hole in the division with plenty of question marks.
