Lane Kiffin Triggers 1-Year, $9M Ole Miss Contract Extension with Win vs. Arkansas
Ole Miss' Week 10 victory over Arkansas must have felt a little extra sweet for head coach Lane Kiffin.
Steve Berkowitz of USA Today reported that the Rebels' 63-31 victory over the Razorbacks triggered an automatic one-year extension worth $9 million and $7.2 million guaranteed for the team's head coach. Kiffin had been under contract through 2029, so his new deal will extend through 2030.
Berkowitz reported that the deal still could have been extended in December even if Ole Miss didn't reach seven wins but that both parties would have had to agree to it.
That win total didn't appear to be in doubt heading into the season, and the program's 4-0 start only helped matters.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart was superb on Saturday, setting program records for passing yards (515) and passing touchdowns (six) in a single game.
The Rebels are now 7-2 and have a consequential game against No. 2 Georgia coming up next week.
While that matchup should still carry significant pressure for the team's playoff hopes, it won't have any bearing on Kiffin's contractual status.
