Aaron Rodgers Sends Message to Jets Fans: 'There's Still a Lot of Season Left'

New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers preached a message of calm to the fanbase amid the team's 2-6 start.

The veteran quarterback told reporters Tuesday that "there's still a lot of season left" and wants the fans to "root us on as hard as you can."

Unfortunately for Rodgers and his teammates, we might be past the point where they get the benefit of the doubt. A five-game losing streak will do that.

And the problem for New York is that it's hard to see what can realistically happen to spark a major turnaround.

Firing head coach Robert Saleh hasn't changed much, unless you want to count the defense getting noticeably worse.

Rodgers' 6.41 adjusted yards per passing attempt are on pace to be a career low when he has started a full season, per Pro Football Reference. He's showing his age (40) in addition to the effects of his Achilles injury.

Wide receiver Davante Adams has seven receptions for 84 yards through two games with New York. Linebacker Haason Reddick was held without a tackle on 26 defensive snaps in his first start. Together, they may not be providing a big midseason lift.

Back in September, Rodgers recalled a comment from former coach Mike McCarthy when he said the Jets' "biggest struggle is going to be handling success." The good news is that the issue has resolved itself because they haven't had much in the way of success lately.

A sense of fatalism permeates this franchise and its fanbase even in the best of times. Rodgers can't expect any patience when things are going off the rails this badly.
