Sami Zayn Gives Bloodline Drama Huge Boost, CM Punk Needed Back, More WWE Raw Takes

Kevin BergeOct 29, 2024

Days before Crown Jewel, the October 28 edition of WWE Raw provided Bloodline drama, Judgment Day surprises and a show-stealing No. 1 contender tag team bout.

Jey and Jimmy Uso have finally found their way back together. Sami Zayn also found himself caught in the crossfire of Bloodline infighting. Would he choose a side or stay out of it?

Dominik Mysterio pulled off a surprise win in the main event, rolling up Damian Priest. Could he pull off another upset when he eventually challenges Gunther?

The War Raiders continued a dominant streak by defeating The New Day and LWO to earn a World Tag Team Championship opportunity. Will Erik and Ivar complete their golden journey?

Raw was not quite the major Crown Jewel hype piece that was expected, but it did continue its important stories beyond Saturday's premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Sami Zayn Instantly Improves Bloodline Drama

1 of 4

Sami Zayn has always had a knack for adding depth to the stories he tells, but no angle has benefited from his presence as much as The Bloodline.

As the only non-Samoan to join the group, he brought humor and ultimately drama to an angle that needed a spark.

With Roman Reigns returning and The Usos reuniting, Zayn is the last piece of the puzzle that can give the team combating the current Bloodline real weight.

While his involvement this week was limited, Zayn has already added a necessary intriguing element to a story that was not moving smoothly with just Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa.

If Zayn is convinced to rejoin Reigns and The Usos, it will show that the babyface team has changed and allow each man to show his growth over the past two years.

Raw Needs CM Punk and Drew McIntyre Back

2 of 4

While Gunther focuses on defeating Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel, the top of the men's division on Raw has looked woefully understaffed.

Seth Rollins and Bronson Reed are having a blast destroying everything together, but their angle is more focused on highlight moments than a clear main event spotlight.

The Judgment Day does not have main event upside at the moment, even if Damian Priest says he wants to go back after The Ring General.

The Wyatt Sicks vs. The Final Testament is a midcard angle where no one is near gold. Much of the rest of the men's card is focused on the tag team division.

The missing pieces are CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. Raw's best established stars outside of the title picture delivered big-time together inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood on October 5.

Both are taking time off to recover from that contest, but their absence weighs on Raw. Hopefully, The Best in the World and The Scottish Warrior will return after Crown Jewel.

WWE Must Double Down on Tag Team Restart with War Raiders' Championship Victory

3 of 4

The tag team division in WWE is changing for the better.

The Motor City Machine Guns won the WWE Tag Team Championships in their second week, and The War Raiders are back and instantly No. 1 contenders. The final move is to give the World Tag Team Championships to Erik and Ivar.

Two established tag teams focused on defending the gold would revitalize a division that has long been stagnant.

While Finn Bálor ad JD McDonagh have major upside as a tag team, The Judgment Day has never focused enough on the tag team division to raise the standard of the competition around them.

The War Raiders remain a strong pairing with limited aspirations for singles success. This is a true tag team that will focus on the championships and division instead of Judgment Day melodrama.

Dominik Mysterio Is Ready for Main Roster Title Run

4 of 4

The Judgment Day will go down as one of WWE's greatest modern stables, but it hasn't been a consistent star-making angle.

The major exception has been Dominik Mysterio. After a strong start to his wrestling career, the son of Rey Mysterio was floundering until he met Rhea Ripley.

She helped turn him heel and become, arguably, the most hated man in WWE for a long stretch. The heat he gets to this day rivals even the all-time greats.

Mysterio has improved mightily in the ring, even if he is mostly treated as a joke in terms of credible competition. That should change in the next year. He needs to take that next step to challenge the top champions in WWE.

Even though the 27-year-old has been teasing a world title reign, he is ready to capture the United States or Intercontinental Championship instead.

By WrestleMania 41, Dirty Dom should be walking in with gold to potentially face his father once more.
