Aaron Rodgers: Jets Are in 'Darkness' amid 5-Game Skid After Loss to Patriots

Doric SamOct 27, 2024

The New York Jets reached a new low on Sunday with a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, extending their losing streak to five straight games.

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked after the game what hasn't been going right for the team during this skid.

"Well, we're not playing complementary football," Rodgers said. "We haven't put it together really since the last time we won a game where all three phases played really well. Same thing today."

Rodgers added that he believes the Jets are in a period of "darkness" and elaborated on how the team can climb out of that precarious position.

Ironically, the last time the Jets won was their first matchup against the Patriots in Week 3. Things appeared to be trending in the right direction after New York's dominant 24-3 victory, but everything quickly fell apart.

Rodgers threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-28 passing against the Patriots. The much-maligned Jets offense showed moments of competence during Sunday's game, but the team failed in other areas.

New York kicker Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point in the first quarter and a field goal in the fourth quarter, costing the team four crucial points in what ended up being a three-point loss. Zuerlein has now missed six field goals this season, four of which have come in losses of three points or less.

The Jets defense that entered the year projected to be one of the best in the league has been anything but, and its struggles continued on Sunday. New York allowed New England to convert crucial third downs and cost itself with penalties. The Patriots gained 111 yards on the ground, the fourth time the Jets have allowed their opponents to have over 100 rushing yards in their last five losses.

Things won't get easier for New York (2-6), as it will host the AFC South-leading Houston Texans (6-2) on Thursday Night Football.
