New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams was fined $45,020 by the NFL for the illegal use of his helmet, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

In the third quarter of the Jets' 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, Williams lowered his helmet as he tackled Steelers running back Jaylen Warren near the goal line.

The 28-year-old finished the game with five tackles to go along with a tackle for loss.

Williams responded to the fine on X:

He wasn't the only member of New York's defense to incur a fine following the loss to Pittsburgh, as rookie defensive tackle Leonard Taylor was fined $4,435 for roughing the passer (via ESPN's Rich Cimini).

Williams earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2023, but he also finished the year as one of the league's most fined players. He recorded four infractions last season, totaling $65,584.

His latest fine was especially hefty, with CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones noting that it was the highest amount among all players in Week 7.

Per the NFL's fines and appeals schedule, impermissible use of the helmet results in a $22,511 fine following a first offense and $45,020 for a second offense.

Despite the Jets' 2-5 record this year, Williams is in the midst of another strong season. In seven starts, the 28-year-old has recorded 48 tackles, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

New York's front seven is also receiving a boost moving forward, agreeing with star pass-rusher Haason Reddick to end his holdout for a new contract.

As Williams prepares for the Jets' Week 8 matchup with the New England Patriots, he also has the right to appeal his first fine of the 2024 season.
