Jets' Woody Johnson Talks Davante Adams Trade, Says 'Status Quo' Won't Lead to Wins
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson didn't mince words about the team's desire to win in the wake of Tuesday's deal to acquire Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaking to reporters during the league meetings in Atlanta, Johnson said "status quo is killer" as the primary driving force to reunite Adams with Aaron Rodgers.
"You have to go with your instinct and build a culture," Johnson added. "He'll open everything up."

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets are sending a conditional draft pick to the Raiders for Adams.
ESPN's Adam Schefter added the Jets' 2025 third-round pick to the Raiders can become a second-rounder if certain individual or team performance benchmarks are met.
The Jets had been considered the favorite to land Adams as soon as the star wideout made it known he wanted to be traded by Las Vegas.
Despite some strong interest from the New Orleans Saints, the Jets always made the most sense for Adams. They are in go-for-broke mode at this point with Rodgers in his age-40 season.
Johnson has certainly left no doubt he will change the status quo with the hope of getting the Jets to turn things around. In the past seven days, they have fired Robert Saleh as head coach, replaced him with interim Jeff Ulbrich, installed Todd Downing as offensive play-caller after taking away that responsibility from Nathaniel Hackett and now traded for Adams.
While we have yet to see how Adams will fit into this puzzle, the initial returns with Ulbrich as interim head coach and Downing as offensive play-caller were a mixed bag.
The offense had its second-best game of the season by total yards (393) on Monday night, but it came in a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills. They only scored three points in the second half, were penalized 11 times for 110 yards and scored just one touchdown in four red-zone trips.
Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard both surpassed 100 receiving yards in the loss. They are the first Jets teammates with at least 100 receiving yards in the same game since Jermaine Kearse and Robbie Chosen in December 2017.
It's unclear when Adams will be able to play for the Jets. He has missed the past three games due to a hamstring injury and will need to learn a new playbook, but his established rapport with Rodgers could make for an easy acclimation period whenever he is healthy.
The Jets will play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
