Will Levis 'Fighting Like Hell' to Play vs. Colts in Week 6 amid Shoulder Injury

Paul KasabianOct 9, 2024

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, who suffered a right shoulder injury on Sept. 30, is "fighting like hell" to play on Sunday at home against the Indianapolis Colts

"I'm a competitor," Levis said following Wednesday's practice, per Titans senior writer/editor Jim Wyatt.

"I'm going to push myself to play in whatever state that I'm in. It's going to be hard for myself to take myself out, but I've got to be smart throughout the week and feel it out and see how I feel, and not put myself or my team in jeopardy.

"But I'm fighting like hell to get out there on Sunday."

Levis suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Titans' 31-12 road win over the Miami Dolphins and did not return. Backup Mason Rudolph took over for the remainder of the game.

Levis was listed as a full participant on the Titans' injury report, which is certainly a good sign for his chances Sunday. And unless there's a setback, it appears he'll get the call.

"If he's good to practice and good to go, then he's going to play," Titans head coach Brian Callahan said Monday, per Wyatt. "Unless (the shoulder) is affecting his ability to do his job. …. If it still hurts a ton and he is having trouble throwing effectively and all those things, it is a whole different conversation.

"We'll see how the week of practice goes, but I feel pretty good about where he should be at."

Levis did practice and said he felt "good" afterward.

"It was good to get back out there and feel it out. And, I feel good about where I'm at," Leis said.

Regarding his chances to play, Levis has this to say:

"It's (a matter) of if I'm able to do everything that's going to be asked of me on Sunday. I got through today and felt it out, and I'm just going to see how it goes throughout the week. I feel good right now, and we'll see how the rest of the week goes.

"Obviously it's my first time throwing since coming back from it. I expect to be a little sore, but I'm just going to have to probably work through it and see where I'm at tomorrow."

Levis, a second-year pro out of Kentucky, has completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 604 yards, four touchdowns and an NFL-high six interceptions, including two returned for scores.

It's been a tough year for Levis, who took over as the Titans' starter during last season. He showed promise at times last year, most notably when he tossed four touchdowns in his NFL debut against the Atlanta Falcons and threw for 327 yards versus the Miami Dolphins last December.

Tennessee hasn't fared well either, losing its first three before the win over Miami. But the Titans will hope to build a winning streak Sunday when they host the Colts at 1 p.m. ET.
