Cowboys' Stephen Jones Dismisses Davante Adams Trade Rumors, Cites Salary Cap
The Dallas Cowboys apparently have no interest in star receiver Davante Adams, who recently requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones dismissed rumors that Dallas would be in the mix for Adams, citing the team's recent deal with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and other cap space challenges.
"No. I don't think there is anything to that," Jones said on San Antonio's Sports Star (h/t The Athletic's Jon Machota). "We just signed our No. 1 guy (CeeDee Lamb) and (Adams) is a No. 1 receiver. When you have the challenges cap-wise that we have, that would be a long putt for us."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
The Cowboys were among the teams listed in early reports of possible suitors for Adams, with The Athletic's Dianna Russini noting that Dallas had already checked in with the Raiders on Wednesday morning.
Jones' comments on Thursday seem to indicate the Cowboys have since decided not to pursue Adams.
Dallas handed Lamb a massive four-year, $136 million contract in August to end a holdout. Just a few weeks later, the Cowboys gave quarterback Dak Prescott a four-year, $240 million contract that made him the highest-paid player annually in NFL history.
Adams has a $16.89 million salary for the 2024 season, though that number would be $13.13 million if a team traded for him now. Interested teams would have to pay him $938,333 less every week that he isn't traded, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. Dallas has $25.002 million in cap space this season, per Spotrac.
While Adams would give Prescott another star receiving option, Jones isn't looking to add another No. 1 receiver's salary to his roster this year.
Instead, the Cowboys will look to work with what they have to compete for a championship, though a 2-2 star is not a good indication that Dallas is in Super Bowl form. Heading into Week 5, the Cowboys have been hit with a handful of injuries on defense, including one to star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
They'll look to win back-to-back games this week when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers after last week's win over the New York Giants.
