Josh Allen, Sam Darnold Headline 2024 NFL Players of the Month for September

The NFL released its players of the month from September on Thursday, with a pair of quarterbacks highlighting the list.

In the AFC, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy and Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell were named the offensive, defensive and special teams players of the month, respectively.

In the NFC, Minnesota Vikings breakout quarterback Sam Darnold was named the offensive player of the month, Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson earned honors on the defensive side, and Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey took home the special teams award.

Finally, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month, while Los Angeles Rams linebacker Jared Verse earned the rookie honors on the defensive side of the ball.

Allen, 28, has led the Bills to a 3-1 start this season, throwing for 814 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions despite losing his top two targets in the passing game over the offseason in Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

Van Noy, 33, leads the NFL in tackles for loss (seven) to go along with six sacks and nine quarterback hits. Boswell, 33, is 11-of-12 on field-goal attempts this season, making five of his six attempts from 50 yards or greater.

Darnold, 27, is trending toward being the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year this season. After three miserable years with the New York Jets to start his career, two equally rough years with the Carolina Panthers after that and a backup gig for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, Darnold has thrived in Minnesota, throwing for 932 yards and an NFL-best 11 touchdown passes while leading the Vikings to a perfect 4-0 record.

His divisional rival, the 24-year-old Hutchinson, leads football with 6.5 sacks to go along with 16 tackles, a forced fumble and 14 quarterback hits. He's been a force off the edge for the Lions.

The 29-year-old Aubrey, meanwhile, has seemingly unlimited range, going 6-of-7 on field goals from 50 or more yards, including a 65-yard make in Week 3, the second-longest field goal in NFL history.

As for the rookies, the 23-year-old Daniels has Commanders fans feeling hope again after his fantastic start to the season. Alongside the team's surprising 3-1 record, Daniels has thrown for 897 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, completing an absurd 82.1 percent of his passes, tops in the NFL. He's also been lethal on the ground, rushing for 218 yards and four touchdowns to the delight of fantasy football enthusiasts.

Finally, the 23-year-old Verse—the first selection the Rams have made in the first round of the NFL draft since taking Jared Goff No. 1 overall back in 2016—has been fantastic in year one, notching 19 tackles (five for loss), one sack, four quarterback hits and a forced fumble.
