Floyd Mayweather: Boxer's Jail Sentence Delayed for Potential Pacquiao Bout
Floyd Mayweather Jr. was supposed to turn himself into a Las Vegas jail today after pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery of his ex-girlfriend, which allegedly occurred in September 2010.
Now the beginning of his sentence has been postponed until June 1, per TMZ.com.
We all know what this means, folks: a fight with Manny Pacquiao on May 5 at the MGM Grand is still a possibility.
Mayweather's camp has booked May 5 at the MGM Grand, but Mayweather's opponent is still undetermined.
However, there are murmurs that Pacquiao wouldn't be ready to face Mayweather by May, anyway.
Tweeted Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated:
Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel also tweeted along the same lines:
But, who knows. May and June are just one month apart, anyway. This may be the last chance to see both boxers on top of the world before they start declining. If Pacquiao really wanted to, there's nothing stopping him except a slight inconvenience as far as the fight date.
We've seen both Mayweather and Pacquiao's camps go back and forth throughout the years, one blaming the other for a fight not being scheduled. You can side with either camp, but the reality is they are both to blame and should frankly be ashamed of themselves for not scheduling what would be the most anticipated boxing match in years.
These are the top two boxers in the world, after all. A fight between them would be epic, and would also help boxing as it has scuffled a time or two lately.
Some believe Mayweather doesn't want to endanger his undefeated record, which now stands at 42-0. Others believe Pacquiao may be concerned now because of his last two fights with Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez, in which he didn't dominate (some actually believe Marquez won on Nov. 12).
What do I believe?
I just want to see the two of them fight, as does most of the boxing world.
