Steelers' Justin Fields in Line to Start vs. Broncos over Injured Russell Wilson
After leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory in Week 1 while quarterback Russell Wilson sat out with a calf injury, Justin Fields is once again in line to be under center when the team returns to action against the Denver Broncos.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday that the team is preparing as if Fields is the starter for Sunday's game. He added that Wilson "feels better today than over the weekend" and will be evaluated after Wednesday's practice before deciding on how the rest of the week will proceed.
Wilson was expected to start Pittsburgh's season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, but he re-aggravated a calf issue that had hindered him during training camp and was forced to sit out.

In Wilson's absence, Field helped lead the Steelers to an 18-10 win over the Falcons. The 25-year-old completed 17 of his 23 passes for 156 yards while also adding 57 rushing yards on 14 carries. While Pittsburgh was unable to reach the end zone, Fields still earned praise for playing a blemish-free game.
"As I've gotten to know him, man, he is a real steady Eddie," Tomlin said after the game. "He's not overly talkative, but he's got a steady, strong demeanor and just being in the stadium with the man, some of the things that I've seen through team development were confirmed. It's just good to be able to communicate with a guy when things get thick, and you see the clear eyes. He's there. He's solid as a rock, and I think his play and thus our play is kind of reflective of that."
Fields will be facing a Broncos team that is coming off a 26-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks but held Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith to 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception. As the only team in the AFC North with a 1-0 record, the Steelers will try to keep the momentum going and maintain their division lead in Week 2 with Fields leading the way.
