Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Hypes Xavier Worthy: 'When He Wants to Go, He Can Go'
Patrick Mahomes is excited about his new weapon in the passing game, rookie wideout Xavier Worthy, who showed out in his first NFL game.
"It's like when he wants to go, he can go," Mahomes said Monday of Worthy's explosive speed during a radio appearance on The Drive on Audacy's 96.5 The Fan (1:23:50 mark). "It's a speed that he does a good job using to his advantage. Obviously, you can be fast and just run fast the whole time, but it seems like he kinda waits until the right moment to use that speed and you just try to get the football in his hands. Let him make plays. I thought he did a great job."

1 Sentence Describing Every NFL Team's Nightmare Scenario 😱
Worthy famously ran an NFL-record 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash at this year's NFL Scouting Combine. But that speed translates on the football field, too.
He totaled three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City's 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, adding one rushing attempt for 21 yards and a score. His speed adds another dimension to the Kansas City offense and provided an upgrade for a receiving corps that was a huge weakness a season ago.
Mahomes, who watched film on a number of receivers the Chiefs were considering at the 2024 NFL draft, had a soft spot for Worthy.
"Just route running [and] a guy that played physical, too," he told ESPN's Adam Teicher about what he liked from Worthy's tape. "For him to not weigh a ton, he plays hard, he plays through stuff. He goes out there and competes, and then the speed, obviously it opens up the field, but he's not just a fast receiver. He plays hard, plays fast and you want those types of guys on your football team."
