Fantasy Football Trade Market: Top Players to Buy, Sell & Hold Before 2024 NFL Week 2

Moe MotonSep 9, 2024

Now, fantasy football managers have regular-season results to help make trade decisions.

In Week 1, some rookies showed promising signs while others struggled, but one top draft pick had a near no-show outing.

How should managers weigh rookie performances?

Moreover, how should they view potential rotation shifts that may be a blip or the start of a trend for the 2024 campaign?

Let's take a look at the fantasy stock market, where managers can decide whether they need to buy, sell or hold player stocks ahead of Week 2.

Remember, as a shrewd trader, you're trying to buy low and sell high.

Buy These Players Now

1 of 3
Bills WR Keon Coileman
Bills WR Keon Coileman

Zack Moss, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Week 1: 9 carries, 44 yards, TD; 2 catches, 17 yards

The Bengals' loss may have eliminated 75 percent of survivor pool players, though we learned something noteworthy from their 16-10 defeat to the New England Patriots.

Moss is clearly Cincinnati's lead tailback. He outpaced Chase Brown, his primary competitor for touches, 11 to six.

Because of the discrepancy in touches between the Bengals' top running backs, Moss seems like he's in line for the lion's share of touches regardless of the game script.

Even when the Bengals offense is at full strength, Moss will likely be the early-down ball-carrier and finisher near the goal line.

Buy Moss for: Zamir White, Jaylen Warren, Javonte Williams

Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals

Week 1: 1 catch, 4 yards

Harrison had a forgettable regular-season debut.

Because of Kyler Murray's modest passing yards total (162), some managers may have concerns about the Cardinals' overall offense under second-year play-caller Drew Petzing.

However, Murray didn't play in the preseason, and Harrison barely saw any action in the exhibition games. Within a couple of weeks, this pair could be lighting up defenses.

Try to buy low for Harrison, who was a non-factor in Arizona's 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Buy Harrison for: Davante Adams, Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel Sr.

Keon Coleman, WR, Buffalo Bills

Week 1: 4 catches, 51 yards

Coleman led the Bills in catches and receiving yards in a 34-28 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

With Josh Allen involved in the ground game, Buffalo has made a stronger commitment to the run, with James Cook leading the backfield.

Because of Coleman's average performance, managers may not be completely sold on him, but he led the Bills offense in targets (five) and put together an efficient performance. Because of Allen's big arm, the rookie could post eye-popping numbers sooner rather than later.

Buy Coleman for: Keenan Allen, Courtland Sutton, Diontae Johnson

Raiders WR Davante Adams
Raiders WR Davante Adams

Javonte Williams, RB, Denver Broncos

Week 1: 8 carries, 23 yards, 1 catches, 0 yards

Williams may be losing his grip on the lead role in the Broncos backfield.

In Denver's 26-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Jaleel McLaughlin, who appeared in on our buy list last week, led the backfield in touches (15). Williams had nine.

Even more concerning, Williams only saw two targets while McLaughlin saw five.

If Williams isn't the Broncos' primary ball-carrier or pass-catcher out of the backfield, he may be more of a flex option than an RB2 in points-per-reception leagues.

Sell Williams for: Zack Moss, Jerome Ford, Austin Ekeler

Stefon Diggs, WR, Houston Texans

Week 1: 6 catches, 33 yards, 2 TDs

Diggs didn't waste any time asserting himself in Houston. He scored twice, with the second trip to paydirt putting the Texans in the lead by nine.

However, the four-time Pro Bowler caught all six of his targets for just 33 yards. He's accumulated 87 or fewer receiving yards in 14 consecutive games.

If Diggs doesn't get into the end zone, he'll be a WR3 in fantasy leagues while sharing targets with Nico Collins and Tank Dell in Houston.

Sell Diggs for: Malik Nabers, Jaylen Waddle, Jayden Reed

Davante Adams, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

Week 1: 5 catches, 59 yards

The Raiders offense doesn't look much better than last year's 23rd-ranked scoring unit.

After averaging 19.5 points per game in 2023 under former head coach Josh McDaniels and first-time offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree, the Raiders scored 10 points in a Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

On top of Adams' underwhelming showing, new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy featured rookie tight end Brock Bowers in the passing game. He led the team in targets (eight), hauling in six passes for 58 yards.

As Adams did last year with a bottom-third scoring offense, he could still eclipse 1,100 receiving yards, but with Bowers involved in an inefficient passing attack, the three-time All-Pro wideout may see a notable drop-off in his production if he stays in Las Vegas.

Sell Adams for: D.K. Metcalf, Marvin Harrison Jr., Nico Collins

Hold These Players for Another Week

3 of 3
Steelers QB Justin Fields
Steelers QB Justin Fields

Justin Fields, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 1: 17/23, 156 passing yards; 14 carries, 57 yards

On Sunday, Fields started over Russell Wilson, who's dealing with a calf injury.

Even though the Steelers beat the Falcons 18-10, Fields didn't steal the job away from Wilson with a dazzling performance.

Pittsburgh may turn the offense back over to the nine-time Pro Bowler once he's healthy enough to play.

However, because of Fields' rushing production, he's worth holding in case Wilson misses more time.

Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seattle Seahawks

Week 1: 8 carries, 12 yards; 2 catches, 29 yards, TD

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf talked about the team's commitment to the run game under offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, and we saw it play out in a 26-20 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Seattle ran the ball 33 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns, which included quarterback Geno Smith's four carries for 30 yards and a score.

Charbonnet handled most of the rushing workload after Kenneth Walker III exited with an abdomen injury.

If Walker is limited in any way next week, the 2023 second-round pick could see an increase in touch volume for a run-heavy offense.

Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants

Week 1: 6 catches, 44 yards; 1 carry, 14 yards

The Giants offense looked abysmal in a 28-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but Robinson may benefit from a negative game script if Big Blue continues to trail by multiple scores in games.

Though his receiving numbers don't stand out in the box score, he saw 12 targets in the loss. If Robinson sees that much volume—or close to it—with consistency, he'll be a viable PPR flex option.
