Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Winning Super Bowl With a Different Team Wouldn't Be the Same

Andrew PetersSep 5, 2024

Amid contract negations with the Dallas Cowboys, star quarterback Dak Prescott said winning a Super Bowl with his current team is enough motivation for him to stick around.

He also said winning a championship elsewhere wouldn't be as special.

"That's what motivates me on being here, honestly, is to be the quarterback that does it, that wins it," Prescott said, per NFL insider Ed Werder. "I don't think that winning it any other place, would be the same."

As the Cowboys' season opener looms on Sunday, Prescott is set to enter the final season of his four-year, $160 million contract barring an extension in the coming days.

Even though he might not have an extension before Dallas begins the season, Prescott said he feels he can still stay focused on the task at hand. Still, he admits it could be beneficial to have a new contract before the year starts.

"I've always talked about how present I can be," Prescott said, per the Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins. "But understanding not everybody is capable of that, to be honest with you, that yeah, there could definitely be some benefit in that."

If the Cowboys give Prescott an extension, it will likely be a lucrative one. This offseason saw quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa get deals worth more than $50 million a year, and it seems Prescott's contract would be around that number as well.

The ninth-year veteran is coming off a season in which he recorded 4,516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns as he made a strong case for MVP. He'll look to put up similar numbers this year while guiding the Cowboys in their quest for their first Super Bowl since 1995.
