Deion Sanders Calls Out Colorado Defense in Locker Room Video After Win vs. NDSU
Deion Sanders knows a few things about great defense, so it's not a surprise he was unhappy with Colorado's performance on that side of the ball in Thursday's 31-26 win over North Dakota State.
In a postgame video from Well Off Media (starts at 50:50 mark), Sanders said the last touchdown the Buffaloes allowed "was just idiotic" before asking "how many times are we gonna let the quarterback leak out" without bringing him down.
Despite another offseason transforming the roster with an FBS-high 42 incoming transfers, Thursday's game was eerily similar to every game the Buffaloes played in 2023.
The defense continues to have very few answers against opposing teams. The Bison scored on each of their four possessions (two touchdowns, two field goals) and put up 449 total yards. Quarterback Cam Miller went 18-of-22 for 277 yards and one touchdown.
The final touchdown that Sanders called out came at the end of an 11-play, 75-yard drive. North Dakota State converted a fourth-and-1 from Colorado's 39-yard line. Miller capped off the drive with a score when he avoided pressure from a blitz up the middle and had no one within five yards of him until he reached the end zone.
Shedeur Sanders and the offense were moving the ball with relative ease, despite persistent protection problems from the interior of the line. They racked up 504 total yards and averaged 13.1 yards per pass attempt.
North Dakota State had a chance to win at the end of regulation when Miller completed a Hail Mary attempt, but Tyler Terhark was tackled four yards short of the goal line after time expired.
This was not an encouraging game by Colorado, even though it came away with a win. This is the 10th time in 13 games since the start of last season that the defense has allowed at least 400 yards and 25 points to the opposing team.
There are a lot of things for the Buffaloes to clean up before their next game against Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 7.
