MLB Umpire Carted Off Field After Being Injured by Broken Bat from Yankees' Stanton
An MLB umpire had to be carted off during the New York Yankees matchup with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday after an unfortunate situation.
As Giancarlo Stanton hit a blooper to left field, his bat snapped and the barrel went behind him, hitting home plate umpire Nick Mahrley in the head and sending him to the ground. Mahrley received some brief attention before being carted off the field.

After being placed on a stretcher, Mahrley had his neck stabilized in a brace and was taken to the hospital, according to NJ.com's Randy Miller. The game was also paused for nearly 16 minutes as the medical staff attended to Mahrley.
Per the Associated Press, crew chief Marvin Hudson took over behind the plate when the game resumed and Hunter Wendelstedt moved from second base to first base.
Mahrley has served as an MLB and minor league umpire since 2017 but was officially called up to the Major League staff ahead of the 2023 season.
Stanton's hit came in the bottom of the fifth as the Yankees led 4-3, and it loaded the bases for Jazz Chisholm Jr., who struck out swinging. Anthony Volpe then grounded out to shortstop to leave New York scoreless in the inning.
