NFL Rumors: Max Duggan Released by Jim Harbaugh, Chargers amid Justin Herbert Injury
The Los Angeles Chargers released quarterback Max Duggan on Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Pelissero noted that the Chargers now have two healthy signal-callers on their roster, Easton Stick and Luis Perez, after Justin Herbert was diagnosed with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot on Aug. 1.
Duggan was selected by Los Angeles in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft before Jim Harbaugh eventually took over as the team's new head coach on Jan. 24.

He alternated between the Chargers' practice squad and active roster throughout his first season, though he didn't make any regular-season appearances.
Duggan spent all four years in college at TCU, finishing No. 3 on the school's all-time passing list. He earned a second-place finish in Heisman Trophy voting following his 2022 season after throwing for 3,698 yards and 32 touchdowns in 15 games.
He led the Horned Frogs to an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship, although they eventually fell to Georgia.
Duggan wasn't able to climb up the Chargers' depth chart in 2024, completing four of his seven pass attempts for 41 yards in one preseason appearance on Aug. 10. He did not play in Los Angeles' second preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
As part of Herbert's injury announcement, the Chargers revealed an "expectation" that he'll be ready for the team's Week 1 clash with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 8. Los Angeles only has one preseason contest remaining, facing off against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 24, with Stick and Perez likely to split time against Dallas.
