Sunday Recap, Monday Preview
3 of 3Host state Pennsylvania exploded Sunday in Williamsport, delivering their finest offensive performance in this tournament with a 12-2 shellacking of Washington. Grayson Gage and Tyler Wexler drove in runs for the Council Rock Newtown Little League team and never looked back en route to eliminating the South Hill Little League team.
Up next for the Mid-Atlantic Region representative is the loser of Monday's game between Hawaii and Nevada. The former has, at least in recent years, been a powerhouse in the tournament and would provide the home team their toughest test thus far.
That is, if Hawaii makes it past a Nevada team that threw up nine runs in its sole appearance to this point in the tournament, a victory over New York.
Since suffering that first loss to Nevada, the New York team has put up back-to-back victories by a total of 10-3. Third baseman Dean Scarangello had a big day offensively and defensively while the South Shore Little League pitchers preserved a shutout against Illinois Sunday.
The Metro Region representative will meet the winner of Florida vs. Texas. Whether they can muster the pitching performance from Sunday again, and get past either of those strong opponents, is the question.
Mexico dispatched Canada, eliminating the team to the north with an 8-0 shutout while Aruba jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the team from Sydney, Australia before the game was paused due to rain.
