Under Armour All America Game 2012: Alabama Bolsters Future National Title Hopes
If you watched the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game, one thing is abundantly clear: If you're not a fan of Alabama, the next few years are going to be rough.
As much as I despise expressions like "The rich get richer," I can't really come away with any other thoughts after watching that game.
The game is supposed to be a showcase for the country's best high school players. To a degree, it was. But to a greater degree, it was a showcase for Nick Saban and his obviously immense recruiting talents. It won't be long before those recruiting talents bring him another national championship, regardless of what happens on Monday vs. LSU.
Between previously committed players and those who made their commitment at the game, Alabama had eight players participate. One school bringing in eight of the country's top 150 players should tell you what you need to know about how great they are, when you consider what the competition is.
And it's not likely that they're done bringing in players from that game, as well as other players through the country.
But it's not just that they have the recruits. It's also what they did.
Amari Cooper had a 75-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. Cyrus Jones scored on a 40-yard interception return.
Those plays were overshadowed by the commitment of Landon Cooper, who defied his mother's wishes and committed to the Tide.
Awkward family moment aside, Collins is going to be a dominant, stabilizing force in a secondary that's not going to need a lot of help. Of the 14 4- or 5-star recruits (according to Rivals) that Alabama has landed, five are going to be roaming the secondary. For those of you unfamiliar with a game of football, a standard defensive set calls for four players in the secondary. I don't know about you, but that seems like overkill to me.
In all seriousness, as of this moment, Nick Saban has two BCS National Championships to his name. If he stays at Alabama through this class' stay, he'll have four, regardless of whether or not he wins No. 3 next week.
