Sydney McLaughlin Eyes 4x400m Relay 'If They Need Me' After Olympic Gold Medal Win
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is ready to contribute in any way she is needed.
The 25-year-old won her second individual Olympic gold medal on Thursday in the 400m hurdles with an Olympic and world-record time of 50.37. She defended her title in the event from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has a third Gold medal for her contribution to the 4x400m relay team in 2020.
With that event nearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, McLaughlin is letting her availability be known.
"I'm always here," McLaughlin-Levrone said, per the Associated Press. "if they need me."
Some of the projected participants for the U.S. are Kaylyn Brown, Aaliyah Butler, Kendall Ellis, Quanera Hayes and Alexis Holmes. However, McLaughlin's record-setting performance makes quite the case.
She was on the U.S. team that won gold in the event at the 2019 and 2022 World Championship. Additionally, she defeated Femke Bol, who helped the Netherlands knock off the U.S. in the 4x400m mixed relay, in the 400m hurdles, so McLaughlin could have an edge over the rival.
The U.S. has won the event in seven straight Olympic games. Heat 1 is set for 4:40 a.m. ET on Friday while the final is set for Saturday at 3:14 p.m.
