Timothy RappAug 8, 2024

Turkish pistol shooter and silver medalist Yusuf Dikeç has become something of a viral inspiration after images of him shooting with both eyes open and one of his hands in his pocket made the rounds online.

Now, fellow Olympians are mimicking the pose during their celebrations in honor of his seemingly nonchalant shooting style:

Dikeç, who claimed silver in the mixed team 10-meter air pistol shooting alongside Şevval İlayda Tarhan and placed 13th in the individual event, has now competed in five straight Olympics Games. The 51-year-old won his first medal in Paris.

But it was his seemingly casual demeanor and lack of gear that made him one of the Olympics' viral stars.

"I did not need special equipment," he told Turkish media last week (h/t James Thomas of Euronews). "I'm a natural, a natural shooter."

And naturally, that viral image has inspired plenty of imitations.

Sweden's Mondo Duplantis busted out the pose after setting the world record in the pole vault:

Australia's Nina Kennedy dropped it after winning gold in the women's pole vault:

And Jamaica's Rojé Stona rocked the fashionable new celly after winning gold in the discuss:

It has extended beyond the Olympics, too.

Fenerbahçe midfielder İrfan Can Kahveci dropped the pose in honor of his countryman after scoring in a Champions League match against Lille.

The Olympics provide viewers with a chance to see athletes at the absolute pinnacle of their respective sports, creating new legends and inspiring stories to follow throughout the Games.

But it turns out they are pretty great for the memes, too.
