
Olympic Swimming 2024: Men's 100M Freestyle Medal Winners, Times and Results
China's Pan Zhanle set the first world record in swimming at the 2024 Summer Olympics on his way to winning the men's 100-meter freestyle.
Pan shattered the previous world record that he set earlier this year by four tenths.
He blew past a loaded field that included 2016 gold medalist Kyle Chalmers of Australia, who won his third medal in the event with his second-place finish.

The real race in the 100-meter freestyle was for second. Chalmers, David Popovici and Nando Nemeth were separated by two-hundredths of a second.

Pan followed up his 100-meter freestyle win at the World Championships with the sole world record broken in Paris and a gold medal.
The 19-year-old Chinese swimmer cleared the field in a race that could have gone in a handful of directions.
Pan beat out Chalmers, a two-time medalist in the event, and 200-meter freestyle gold medalist Popovici by a full second.
Chalmers barely touched the wall in second place, as he beat Popovici by one-hundredth of a second. That was the same gap between Popovici and Nandor Nemeth in fourth place.
Pan's victory put China on top of the gold medal table to end Wednesday's medal events. France had pulled level with China and Japan after Leon Marchand's duel golds in the pool.
Pan's win earned the first gold in the pool for China, while Chalmers' silver medal gave Australia 10 total medals in the swimming events.
