Leon Marchand's magical swimming program at the 2024 Summer Olympics continued with a come-from-behind win in the men's 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday.

Marchand powered past Kristof Milak to win his second individual gold medal of the Paris Games and break the Olympic record previously held by Milak.

Marchand's win was just the start of what could be a memorable night inside Paris La Defense Arena. He is one of the favorites to win the 200-meter breaststroke as well.

Marchand delivered a superhuman final leg to ignite the French crowd that lined up around the arena to see him swim on Wednesday.

Marchand's pace at the end of the race brought him within the Olympic record time set by Milak three years ago in Tokyo. The Frenchman broke the record by four-hundredths of a second.

The 22-year-old Frenchman now has two golds in Paris. The other first-place finish occurred in the 400-meter individual medley. He can add to that haul with a win in the 200-meter breaststroke later on in Wednesday's swimming program.

Milak, who still holds the world record in the event, was in front for the start of the race, but he was unable to fend off Marchand's charge in the final 50 minutes.

The race was always going to be between Marchand and Milak and that was shown in the final finishing times. They both finished over a second before Ilya Kharun of Canada confirmed his bronze medal.

Kharun won the bronze with relative ease, as he finished a second in front of his closest competitor.
