China Pulls Level with Japan for Gold Medal Lead
3 of 3
China moved back into a tie with Japan for the most gold medals in Paris.
China took first place in the mixed doubles table tennis event. It beat North Korea four sets to two to clinch gold.
The Chinese team picked up the bulk of its medals in shooting and swimming over the first few days of competition.
China will contend for a handful of other table tennis medals in Paris and that will help it compete with the United States, Japan, France and others in the overall medal table.
Although it is tied for the gold-medal lead, China is six medals behind the United States at the moment.
Team USA should extend its lead in the overall medal table on Tuesday afternoon with chances to medal in swimming and rugby.
There should be no concerns about where Team USA lies in the gold medal table yet since there are countless opportunities, especially in swimming and track and field, to make up ground on China and Japan.
