Josh Jacobs Explains 'Biggest Difference' Between Raiders and Packers After Contract

Adam WellsJul 30, 2024

Heading into his first season with the Green Bay Packers, Josh Jacobs has pinpointed a key difference between his new team and his previous club.

Jacobs told reporters the "biggest difference" between the Packers and Las Vegas Raiders boils down to the former having a shared vision without multiple voices trying to set the agenda.

"I feel like the Raiders are still a cornerstone franchise," Jacobs said. "But when you come in and you have different coaches and different GMs with their own vision, you've kinda got to adapt to their vision. We really didn't have that culture set in stone."

Jacobs was a first-round pick by the Raiders in the 2019 NFL draft. During his five seasons with the club, they had four different head coaches and three different general managers.

Jon Gruden, who coached Jacobs in his first three seasons, resigned midway through the 2021 campaign after using misogynistic and homophobic language in a series of emails that were uncovered during the NFL's investigation into toxic workplace allegations involving the Washington Commanders.

There were reports of discontent between Raiders players and coaches toward head coach Josh McDaniels prior to his firing midway through last season.

Jacobs left the Raiders in the offseason to sign a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers.

Green Bay, for the most part, is among the most stable organizations in the NFL. The franchise has only had four head coaches since 2000 if you include Joe Philbin's one game as an interim coach at the end of the 2018 season.

Brian Gutekunst is entering his sixth season as Packers general manager. They have made the playoffs four times in the past five seasons, with back-to-back NFC Championship Game appearances in 2019 and 2020.

Jacobs has the difficult task of replacing Aaron Jones as the starting running back in Green Bay. The 26-year-old has racked up more than 1,100 yards from scrimmage and at least six total touchdowns in each of his first five seasons.
