The Bloodline Story Needs Sami Zayn, a Hurt Business Reunion in AEW, More Quick Takes

Graham GSM MatthewsJul 29, 2024

As the Bloodline saga continues to take center stage on SmackDown, Roman Reigns's return is expected to play a pivotal role in the next chapter. If he needs backup against his former faction, he should look no further than Sami Zayn.

Zayn was part of The Bloodline for merely a fraction of its lifespan, but his stint in the stable was arguably when The Bloodline was at its best. Zayn and Reigns reuniting alongside The Usos may not be a far-fetched possibility for the immediate future.

Bobby Lashley's rumored impending departure from WWE could very well see him move to AEW soon. The two-time WWE champion has been absent from programming for the past few months and would be an excellent addition to an already stacked AEW roster.

More specifically, a Hurt Business reunion with Lashley, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin would give Lashley immediate direction and the opportunity to be utilized more meaningfully than their last few months together in WWE.

This installment of Quick Takes will discuss The Hurt Business getting another run, why WWE's tag team division should be more of a priority, Kamille being put in the perfect position to shine out of the gate in AEW, and more.

Sami Zayn Would Be a Natural Fit Back in the Bloodline Saga

1 of 5

WWE has effectively kept the Bloodline story on SmackDown consistently compelling even in Roman Reigns' absence since WrestleMania 40.

Solo Sikoa has come into his own as the self-proclaimed Tribal Chief, and Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu, the newest acquisitions to The Bloodline, complement him nicely. Once Reigns returns—presumably at SummerSlam—he'll need to turn to The Usos for backup.

The O.G. Bloodline would still be outnumbered, which is why Reigns turning to Zayn for assistance would be in the best interest of the story and everyone involved.

Fans received a small glimpse of a Zayn and Jey Uso reunion when they teamed up on last week's Raw to defeat The Judgment Day in non-title action. Zayn's loss of the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam would free him up to pursue a run at the World Tag Team Championship with Uso and eventually a reunion with the rest of the Reigns-led Bloodline crew.

Although Zayn belongs in the World Heavyweight Championship picture, it's unlikely he'd have the slightest chance of winning it as long as Gunther has the prestigious prize, so reinserting him into The Bloodline's business would be a strong second option.

Bobby Lashley's WWE Departure Should Pave the Way for a Montez Ford Singles Push

2 of 5

Bobby Lashley joining forces with The Street Profits in the summer of 2023 should have elevated Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford to bigger and better things and reestablished Lashley as a dominant force in the main event scene.

However, between being booked poorly and being miscast as heels, the trio failed to live up to their full potential. WWE was forced to revert them to babyfaces with the crowd refusing to boo them, resulting in faction warfare with The Final Testament that didn't generate much excitement among fans.

The Profits have been back on their own during Lashley's hiatus and have found themselves in the same spot they were in prior to The Pride. They've always been a tremendously talented team, but having accomplished all that they can together, Ford is well overdue for an opportunity as a singles star.

Tag team partners turning on each other is so played out that it'd be a refreshing change of pace for that not to happen with the Profits. Dawkins and especially Ford can shine in one-on-one competition and pursue singles gold while remaining occasional teammates.

Ford has long possessed every tool necessary to be a breakout star in WWE. No longer being a background player in a stable should give him finally a chance to show what he can do and ascend the card.

AEW Has Found the Perfect Role for Debuting Kamille as Mercedes Moné's Bodyguard

3 of 5

Per Fightful Select, Kamille has been signed to AEW since February, but her delayed debut left fans wondering about her status with the company. There have been several opportunities for her to be brought into the mix, but the fashion in which she arrived on the July 24 edition of Dynamite couldn't have been better booked.

The former NWA World Women's champion aided Mercedes Moné in her assault on Britt Baker, confirming her role as Moné's new bodyguard in the process. She'll essentially act as the female equivalent to what Wardlow was to MJF for many years, and their eventual on-screen falling out led to Wardlow being one of AEW's hottest acts for a while.

Through her alliance with Moné, Kamille can ultimately turn on her and get over as a massive babyface in the women's division. Of course, their split shouldn't come anytime soon, and she's perfectly slotted as Moné's insurance policy for now.

It also adds a new dynamic to the Moné vs. Baker feud heading into All In with Baker now having another obstacle to overcome before she can dethrone The C.E.O. as AEW TBS champion.

AEW's women's division has been performing well in recent months, and Kamille's arrival ensures that momentum will continue.

WWE's Tag Team Division Must Be Made More of a Priority

4 of 5

WWE splitting the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship back into two pairs of titles at WrestleMania 41 was a solid step toward revitalizing the tag team division on both brands, but so far, the belts have had less exposure than ever before.

Awesome Truth had a handful of successful defenses as World Tag Team champions but mostly flew under the radar due to being booked as comic relief and not being involved in anything of importance. A-Town Down Under's presence on SmackDown during their reign as WWE Tag Team champions wasn't much better, either.

The Judgment Day and DIY won the tag titles they currently hold in the main event of Raw and SmackDown, but their respective runs have been treated like afterthoughts. That will especially ring true if The Bloodline end DIY's stint as champs after only one month on the Aug. 2 edition of SmackDown.

WWE must prioritize tag team wrestling going forward. Both sets of belts not having been defended on a premium live event since 'Mania proves how much of a problem WWE's lack of care for the division is.

Until then, many teams will flounder because viewers simply aren't being given enough reasons to care about them.

Hurt Business Reunion in AEW Is Worth a Shot

5 of 5

If Bobby Lashley and MVP's exits are as imminent as has been reported, The Hurt Business could be back in business relatively soon, this time in AEW.

WWE prematurely breaking up the group back in early 2021 has been well documented. Lashley and MVP split away from Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander at the peak of the faction's popularity and never reunited despite various teases in the years that followed.

The Triple H regime had a golden opportunity to right this wrong by putting them back together. Instead, Lashley was paired off with The Street Profits, MVP and Alexander was rarely utilized, and Benjamin was released.

Hurt Business would fare just fine for themselves in AEW and would have plenty of other factions to work with. They'd be a welcome addition to the tag team ranks in particular, but simply getting the opportunity to recreate the magic they once had and see their vision through would be worth it.

The only tweak that should be made—aside from finding a new name that isn't owned by WWE—is the addition of a younger fourth member who can benefit from being involved. From Lio Rush to Dante Martin, there is no shortage of exciting options on the AEW roster, not to mention the matches that would become possible with Swerve Strickland, The Elite, Will Ospreay, and others.
