Jerry Jones Thinks Dak Prescott Will Stay with Cowboys After 2024 amid Contract Talks

Andrew PetersJul 25, 2024

Jerry Jones is confident his star quarterback will remain with the Dallas Cowboys beyond the 2024 season.

The Cowboys owner said he thinks Dak Prescott, who is entering the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract this season, will be around in 2025, per NFL Network's Jane Slater.

"Do I think this will be (Dak's) his last year with Cowboys? No," Jones said. "Am I being psychotic relative to my mirror? No."

Jones' optimism about Prescott comes as the Cowboys look to negotiate contracts with two other stars in wide receive CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons. While Parsons still has two more seasons left on his deal, Lamb will be a free agent next offseason.

Lamb, an All-Pro receiver in 2023, is currently holding out of Dallas' training camp, awaiting a contract that "just has to make sense," according to Slater. Dallas reportedly made Lamb its No. 1 priority over Prescott before training camp, and that urgency makes even more sense now that he's holding out.

As for Prescott, it seems unlikely Dallas will be unwilling to give the MVP candidate a lucrative offer. The 30-year-old is coming off the best season of his career that saw him throw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and it's become evident he is capable of leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl.

Earlier this offseason, Prescott made it clear he's willing to be patient when it comes to contract talks, saying that he doesn't "play for money" and allows "the business people to say what it's worth," per ESPN's Todd Archer.

That mindset likely gives Jones and the rest of the Cowboys' front office reassurance that he will remain in Dallas.
