Fantasy Football 2024: Early Mock Draft and Rankings Before Training Camps
NFL training camps are kicking off, which can only mean one thing.
Fantasy football mock draft season has arrived.
If you're of the practice-makes-perfect mindset, then you should be practicing fantasy drafts as often as you can until your league holds the real talent grab. We'll give you both a sampling of a three-round mock using Fantasy Pros' Mock Draft Simulator, and then a couple things to help with your drafts (mock and real), namely point-per-reception position rankings and a few sleepers to put on your radar.

Sleepers To Target
3 of 3
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins
Tagovailoa has some concerns with injuries and inconsistency. He also quarterbacks a dynamic offense featuring perhaps the league's top receiving tandem in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
There's some risk here, but the reward is being overlooked at Tagovailoa's draft price (13th quarterback off the board on average, per FantasyPros). Last season, he played 17 games for the first time and finished ninth in fantasy points at the position. A top-five finish isn't totally out of the question.
David Montgomery, RB, Detroit Lions
Fantasy managers are flocking to the Lions offense and grabbing prolific playmakers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta and Montgomery's backfield mate, Jahmyr Gibbs. But why aren't they grabbing Montomgery himself? He is the 22nd running back off the board despite being last season's ninth-highest scorer at the position.
There were peaks and valleys with his production, but that's true of most running backs not named Christian McCaffrey. The Lions will tap into Gibbs' playmaking when they can, but they won't forget about Montgomery. The last time Detroit played (in the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers), Montgomery had more touches (17 to 15) and yards (113 to 56) than Gibbs.
Diontae Johnson, WR, Carolina Panthers
Fantasy folks have largely forgotten Carolina's offense, which is fine based on what it produced (or didn't produce, really) last season. But with a more seasoned Bryce Young and a new coach and playcaller in Dave Canales, this offense could pack a lot more punch than it did in 2023, when it tied for the fewest points per game in the NFL (13.9).
This isn't necessarily an offense that must be totally avoided, in other words, hence the recommendation for Johnson. He is the cheapest featured receiver you'll find (39th at the position), and he should emerge early and often as Young's safety valve. Johnson has a 107-catch, 1,161-yard, eight-touchdown season his resume (2021). His quarterbacks that season were Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky. Johnson could absolutely cook up a big campaign with Young.
